Apple is an American international technology company with its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The company designs to develop and sell computer software, consumer electronics, as well as online services. Apple is known as one of the Big Tech technology companies, together with Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook.

The company has produced lots of products ranging from hardware products to software products. As well as online services too.

Apple

Last week, the internet broke out a little to learn that Apple had succeeded in pressurizing WordPress to earn its free app. Thereby allegedly forcing it to sell out its premium plans and custom domain names. So that Apple can get up to 30 percent cut of it’s traditional.

However, one afternoon and evening of surprise and shock later, Apple is pulling out. The company is announcing a rare on-the-record apology which reads that WordPress will no longer have to include in-app purchases. Now that all is mentioned and done.

The statement Apple made

Apple said:

“We believe the issue with the WordPress app has been resolved. Since the developer removed the display of their service payment options from the app. It is now a free stand-alone app and does not have to offer in-app purchases. We have informed the developer and apologize for any confusion that we have caused”.

You will observe that Apple is placing this as the developer-WordPress-having done the appropriate thing. And pulled out the “display of their service payment options from the app”. And to my understanding, that is practically true. But as far as I am concerned, it didn’t happen recently, it happened some weeks or months ago.

The WordPress app did not sell anything and didn’t mention a paid “WordPress.com” plan. Except you followed an unexpected workaround. I was able to discover a fellow journalist who had an older version of the app. One with a committed “Plans” tab that highlighted some of the various plans accessible to premium customers:

That said, my source mentioned to me that there was no ability to buy any of the plans. And I can tell that the whole “Plans” section had already been pulled out. By the time WordPress developer, Matt Mullenweg mentioned to us that Apple has succeeded in forcing him to include the in-app purchases of Apple (IAP). (Normally, he had said Apple blocked him from updating the app except he included Apple IAP within 30 days).

Mullenweg’s Comment

What’s more? Mullenweg told us that he had formerly accepted to deny any other mentions of the paid plans out of the app. Also, workarounds. Just like when a user views a preview of his or her WordPress webpage and then moves to WordPress. com. Only to find out that the suggestions were all denied by Apple.

So, to the best of my understanding, this is not WordPress falling or giving up again. Apple appears to have agreed that trying to collect its cut from a free app. Just by pressurizing in-app purchases is not a hill worth dying on today.
